Overview

The Velcro Tourniquet is a reusable, adjustable tourniquet featuring a hook-and-loop (Velcro) closure system. Designed for repeated clinical use, it provides reliable venous occlusion for phlebotomy, IV access, and dialysis procedures. The wide strap distributes pressure evenly across the limb, ensuring patient comfort while maintaining effective occlusion.

Common Applications

How to Use

  1. Select the appropriate limb (upper arm is most common) and ensure the skin is clean and dry.
  2. Wrap the tourniquet snugly around the upper arm, approximately 5–8 cm above the intended puncture site.
  3. Secure the hook-and-loop closure by pressing the two surfaces firmly together. Adjust tightness so that arterial pulsation remains palpable (radial pulse should still be detectable).
  4. Ask the patient to open and close the fist several times to promote venous distension.
  5. Perform the venipuncture or IV insertion. Once the needle is in place, release the tourniquet by peeling apart the Velcro closure.
  6. After use, clean and disinfect the tourniquet according to facility protocols before reuse.

Key Benefits

Safety note: Tourniquets should not be left in place for more than 1–2 minutes during routine venipuncture. Always release promptly after the procedure to prevent tissue ischemia or nerve injury.
